VIOLETA MARTÍNEZ-PARICIO

I am a linguist. More specifically, I am a phonologist.

In June 2021 I joined the Departamento de Teoría de los Lenguajes y Ciencias de la Comunicación at Universitat de València. Previously, I worked at the Departamento de Lengua Española y Teoría de la Literatura at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2019-2021) and, before that, I held a postdoctoral research position at Universitat de València (through the ‘Juan de la Cierva’ and ‘VALi+D‘ competitive programs, 2016-2019) and I worked at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (2014). I received a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Tromsø, where I was a PhD Research Fellow at CASTL (Center for Advanced Study in Theoretical Linguistics).

My research interests cover various aspects of theoretical phonology and morphophonology. I am particularly interested in metrical stress theory, rhythm, prosodic phonology and the interaction between phonology and morphology. I study how languages organize segments into higher prosodic units, especially how prosodic-word internal categories (i.e. feet, syllables and morae) relate to each other.

I am also interested in applied aspects of phonology. Since 2014 I am affiliated to the CALST (Computer-Assisted Listening and Speaking Tutor) project on L2 pronunciation training, leaded by Jacques Koreman and Olaf Husby at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. CALST is a pronunciation training platform which currently offers exercises for learners of Norwegian and English based on the native language of the learner (you can see a video about CALST here and access the platform here). Together with Jacques Koreman, I am currently developing the Spanish version of CALST (Computer-Assisted Listening and Speaking Tutor) in the easyRights project (Horizon 2020 SC6-MIGRATION project number 870980).
